Educating the Educators Project (#201)
A joint project between the Australian Red Cross and the Australian Emergency Management Institute; funded by the Attorney Generals Department.
The project aims to develop teacher confidence in the teaching of disaster resilience education and thus develop disaster resilience within primary and secondary school students.
It will:
§ Deliver a report exploring existing Australian disaster resilience education resources for primary and secondary levels, mapping these resources to the new Australian curriculum. This report will be freely available via AEMI’s Knowledge Hub.
§ Identify strengths, opportunities and considerations for emergency management agencies developing resources in the future.
§ Explore avenues for teachers to increase their understanding of the National Strategy for Disaster Resilience and to highlight the place of DRE in the Australian curriculum
§ Provide pathways for teachers to select and access appropriate DRE resources for their particular environment, circumstances, classroom and individual student needs.
